Indoor activities for kids in Warwickshire this winter
When the days get shorter and the weather turns, finding ways for young children to burn off energy can take a little more planning. You do not need to fill every day with a big outing. A mix of simple play at home, local trips and a regular class can keep winter active and fun.
Make an indoor adventure at home
A few cushions, a tunnel or a line of tape on the floor can become an obstacle course. Ask your child to crawl under, balance along or jump over different parts, then let them redesign it. For toddlers, keep it short and follow their lead. For older children, add a target to throw at the end of each lap.
Try a library or leisure centre visit
Warwickshire libraries and leisure centres can be handy places to explore when the weather changes. Check what is running locally before setting off: story sessions, swimming and family activities vary by venue and date. Even a short trip gives children somewhere new to move, play and meet others.
Bring ball games indoors
Soft balls, beanbags or rolled-up socks are all you need for catching and throwing games. Start close together with a big, easy object, then change the distance or target as confidence grows. Try underarm throws into a laundry basket, or make a tower of plastic cups to knock down. Clear some space and choose equipment that suits your room and your child.
Build a weekly routine with a children’s sports class
A regular session gives children something to look forward to when the weather makes outdoor plans less reliable. At Cricket Kids, our Sunday morning classes at The Greig Leisure Centre in Alcester use movement games and age-appropriate cricket activities to help children run, throw, catch, bat and bowl. The emphasis is on having a go, growing in confidence and enjoying time with other children.
Choose what suits your child
Micro Kids is for ages 2 to 3, with a parent or carer joining in. Mini Kids is for ages 3 to 4½, and Mighty Kids is for older preschool and early primary children. Each group builds skills through play at its own pace. Children do not need any cricket experience to join us.
Keep winter movement manageable
A lively ten-minute game can be just as welcome as a longer outing on a busy day. Rotate a few easy activities, make room for rest, and let your child’s interest guide you.
